01 Molecular Animation

Molecular films that are both beautiful and honest.

Our open framework turns a scientific brief into a Blender film built from PDB structures. Labels on screen state whether each beat shows experimental structure or an illustrative step.

A 21-second silent film of channelrhodopsin C1C2, built from PDB structures 9GO1 and 9GO2. It opens on the protein dimer in a lipid membrane as photons arrive, dives into the retinal pocket, and shows retinal twisting from all-trans to 13-cis (an illustrative morph between the two crystal states). Lys132 then swings toward Glu129 to form a salt bridge. A section through the cation pathway first shows it interrupted, as in the crystal, then open in an illustrative conducting-state model as sodium ions cross the membrane. Throughout, lipids, side chains and the protein move with illustrative thermal motion at literature rates, one second of film standing for about a nanosecond.

02 Approach

Designed around scientific questions.

Our aim is to develop AI systems for connected research problems, rather than isolated tasks. A biological question rarely stands alone: it leads to further questions, invites different perspectives, and changes as the evidence develops.

We are interested in how computational tools can contribute to that process and to deeper biological understanding.

Our approach
A subdivided tesseract turning through four-dimensional views; midway, the fourth dimension flattens and the lattice folds into a single cube.

03 Working principles

Scientific ambition. Careful judgment.

Biological relevance, careful evaluation, and clear communication of uncertainty guide the work we aim to do.

Human hemoglobin (PDB 2HHB): two α and two β chains, each holding a heme, in amber, that carries oxygen. The heme’s porphyrin ring shares its π electrons, drawn as lobes on both faces.
01

Biology comes first.

Start with meaningful scientific questions. Let the biological problem guide the work.

B-DNA (PDB 1BNA): the 32 Watson–Crick hydrogen bonds of its 12 base pairs, each measured from the coordinates, 2.6–3.3 Å. Drawn atom by atom: each phosphate group (red) carries one negative charge, and translucent lobes mark each base’s delocalised π electrons, stacked up the helix.
02

Evaluate with care.

Examine what a system can do, where it falls short, and what the evidence supports.

The human p53 tetramer on the p21 response element, predicted with AlphaFold 3: the confident DNA-binding domains as solid cartoons, everything below pLDDT 70 as faint, translucent chain, the DNA (amber) included.AlphaFold Server output, provided under and subject to the AlphaFold Server Output Terms of Use. Only the view (a slowly drifting camera), colours and representation are ours: cartoons whose secondary structure we estimated from the predicted Cα positions.
03

Make uncertainty clear.

Distinguish an observation from an interpretation, and a promising direction from a demonstrated result.

04 Our work

What we are building.

Research systems that are still in development, and open tools we release when they are ready to be useful to others.
